ABOUT JOAN
Joan lives in Ottawa, Canada’s national capital. She has been quilting for more than 30 years and has won many awards for her quilts, both in Canada and the United States. Although she makes pieced quilts, her passion is for hand appliqué and hand quilting. Her first patterns were developed after teaching classes in hand appliqué, and several of her designs have been inspired by the buildings and the grounds of Parliament Hill, Ottawa. After seeing a Baltimore Album Quilt in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the 1980s, Joan decided she would eventually have to make one; after retirement in 2007, she finally gave it a try. Having spent more than 2,300 hours on her first Baltimore, Joan insisted she would never make another one. Within a few months, she began working on her second Baltimore, and is now completing her third. It is now an addiction.
