Northcott has been contacted by several interested and concerned quilters asking if we would be able to assist in getting quilts to the earthquake/tsunami victims in Japan. The answer is YES. At this point, we have agreed to collect quilts until end April. I have since been in contact with a group doing the same thing in Calgary, and we will partner with them, as they have a container that they are filling. It makes more sense for quilters and shops in western Canada to send their quilts to Calgary, than to Toronto, and the organizer Bev Rogan tells me that Greyhound Express seems to be the cheapest method of shipping by far. The website that she has set up is www.quiltsforjapan.ca, and the address to which quilts should be sent is:
Bev Rogan 38 Rockbluff Close NW Calgary, AB T3G 5B1 (403)274-4193 The quilts should be new. Due to extreme space limitations in the relief shelters in Japan, it is requested that donation quilts do not exceed 60" x 70". Any quilters in the USA can visit www.equilter.com, as they are helping to co-ordinate the collection of quilts from US addresses. Let’s see what we can do to help the unfortunate victims of this terrible disaster.
Thanks and yours truly, Patti Carey
