Amanda began quilting around 2012 under duress. Adamant that she didn’t need another hobby, her mom dragged her into quilting and she has never looked back. Almost immediately she began exploring all facets of quilting – including designing her own patterns and quilting. She quickly realized that this was more than just a hobby, and has been in business officially since 2016 under ALeeB Creative and Quilt It List. A “newer” quilter and designer who also longarm quilts, Amanda has two types of quilts she enjoys designing.
The first type is complicated looking, yet deceptively easy once she breaks them down for the maker. One of her priorities is that her patterns don’t get stuck in a UFO pile because the maker was confused and frustrated. Using traditional blocks and concentrating on color and fabric placement to create depth, her patterns give both the piecer and the quilter a fun playground.
The second type of pattern is something easy to put together in a day – using stash or that fabulous new line that just hit the shops – but geared towards those moments when you just want to sit down and sew with your favorite show, music or audiobook!
Amanda’s overall philosophy is that we should begin with the question “why?” Understanding their reason why to make a quilt can and should impact everything from pattern to quilting motifs. It may seem like taking the fun out of quilting; however Amanda believes that knowing why allows you to break the “rules” in a way that doesn’t end up breaking your heart later! Additionally, she prefers to streamline her patterns wherever possible – which may include use of specific tools, chain or strip piecing, or switching up techniques based on the needs for a particular pattern.
In addition to pattern design and longarm quilting, Amanda is also a tech editor for other pattern designers and enjoys working with fabric companies and shops to inspire quilters to create beautiful quilts!
