Iosif Derecichei

Iosif was born on October 8, 1962 in Marghita, a small city in western Romania. As a child he felt that drawing was something natural and could sketch with ease anything he saw.

He graduated from Art University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After the regime changed in Romania in 1989, it became possible for him to exhibit his paintings abroad. He started to collaborate with some galleries in Hungary having many exhibitions in Budapest, Debrecen and Keszthely.

He presented his paintings mostly in Hungary and Romania, but also exhibited in Austria, Japan and USA. He had a permanent collaboration with Koncz Gallery and Hungallery. Through them his artwork was presented in exhibitions in Western Europe, Japan and USA.

In 2004 he moved to Canada and had his first art show in Windsor, Ontario in June, 2005. The second exhibition was at the Romanian Consulate in Toronto. June 2006 he had an art show in Windsor at 'Art Galia' Gallery.

Since August 2006 he collaborates with 'Canvas Gallery', Toronto.

June 2007 - Annual Street Art Show, Tecumseth - won the first award

February 2008 - Group exhibition at 'Windsor Art Gallery'

March 2008 - Toronto Art Expo

May 2008 - Exhibits his work at 'Towne Square Gallery' Oakville

December 2008 - Finalist in the Artist's Magazine 25th Annual Art Competition

April 2010 - Group exhibition at 'The Shayne Gallery' Montreal
