Nan Baker's combined love of animals and needlework inspired the creation of her company, PURRFECT SPOTS in 1996. Her lifelong love of stitching led her to design cross stitch and needlepoint patterns for publication. She started quilting in 2003. Her quilting designs have appeared in many of the major quilt publications, including The Quilt Pattern Magazine, Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, and on QNNtv.com. Nan is a pattern designer for several major fabric companies including Northcott. She has taught Quilt Classes at shops and also at International Quilt Market for several years.
She has a degree in Marketing and is the Marketing Director for The Quilt Pattern Magazine (TQPM). Nan spearheaded the TQPM Kennel Quilt program which makes Kennel Quilts for shelter pets that have been affected by disasters. This project is sponsored by numerous quilt industry partners and the Petfinder Foundation. She has taught Quilt Classes at shops and also at International Quilt Market for several years.
She was a member of the Disaster Animal Response Team for The Humane Society of the United States and worked hurricanes, fires, floods and tornadoes. As a result of her disaster work, Nan created The CASEY Plan (Caring for Animals Safely in Emergencies during the Year) which is a nationwide program. This plan can be found on her website. Please feel free to download and share. A portion of her sales is donated to helping animals in disasters.
Nan lives in Florida with her husband. She has taken care of many kitties and puppies over the years that have appeared at her door. She has just one kitty now.
If you have extra fabric left over from her patterns, please make Kennel Quilts to help our furry friends! You can find free Kennel Quilt patterns here: http://www.kennelquilts.com"
