Glenda Spencer grew up in Kirkland Lake in Northern Ontario. She moved to Toronto to attend Sheridan College and graduated with a diploma in Creative Arts.
Glenda worked in the photo industry for many years. She managed a Black’s Camera store and then became the internal sales supervisor for Canon’s camera division in Toronto. After several years, Glenda left to become a stay at home mom to three wonderful children in Horseshoe Valley, Ontario.
Stone Cottage Crafts began in 1987 in Horseshoe Valley. It started with an emphasis on the cottage industry, making home decorating items for a custom design company in Toronto and boat tops and interiors on Georgian Bay.
Once the children were grown, Glenda opened Stone Cottage Crafts quilt shop. It is here that she began designing and writing patterns for the store. A Northcott sales rep noticed them and suggested she contact the company. So, Glenda did and she has been designing for Northcott since 2011.
Glenda closed the quilt shop after several years but now enjoys teaching at Mom’s Tangled Threads in Midland, Ontario.
Glenda was nominated as Artist of the Year for Simcoe County in 2006 and has created several custom consignments, including two quilts for the Northern Ontario School of Medicine in Sudbury and Thunder Bay. Her work has been published in Canadian Living and The Quilter magazine.
